User Interface (UI)

This should have 5 volts DC from pin 7 (ground) to pin 2. Duet User Interface Test

Line Power Filter

This is responsible for providing the clean and reliable voltage necessary for you fancy Duet washer’s electronics to work properly. approximately 120VAC in from your home and 120VAC out to the mashers primary control.

Motor Control (MCU)

Whirlpool Duet Washer Motor Control Board

The Duet uses a secondary control board to control the washers motor windings. It has 3 connections.
1. Power in from MS2 on the washer’s primary control.
2. Power out to the motor windings (3 blue wires)
3. Communication with the washer’s main control at the MI3 plug

Motor

This style of Duet washer uses a magnetic rotor which is attached to the washers inner drum. The rotating magnetic field generated by the washers Motor control causes the washer rotor to rotate. These are relatively reliable systems, problems can occur if the windings of the stator coils are damaged and short allowing electricity to bypass portions of the windings full distance. each of the three windings should measure between 8.5Ω – 14Ω of resistance when checked against any other motor winding with a multimeter (the 3 blue wires connected to the Duet motor control unit (MCU)

Door Lock

Whirlpool Duet Washer Door Lock

The Duet door lock’s purpose is fairly obvious… Keep your washboard scrubbing arms attached to your body. The Duet door lock has 3 main parts.
1. The door switch tells the Duet control if the door is open. (0Ω when door is closed and Open circuit when door is open at DCS3-1 to DCS3-3)
2. The door lock solenoid locks the washer door. (63Ω DL3-1 to DL3-2 and 63Ω DL3-2 to DL3-3)
3. The door lock switch tells the Duet control if the door is locked. (0Ω when door is locked and Open circuit when door is unlocked at DCS2-1 to DCS2-2)

Water Valve

Whirlpool Duet Washer Water Valve

The Duet washer uses a series of automatic solenoid valves to control hot and cold water flow into the washing machine. When the valve coils are supplied with 120VAC from the Duet washer control they should open and allow water to flow trough the dispensing system into the washer tub. Problems occur when the valve will not open even when supplied with the proper voltage from the control or do not close fully allowing water to move into the washer even when there is no power supplied. (Each valve coil should show some resistance when measured with a multimeter, not open or 0Ω)

Pressure Sensor Switch

The Duet washer pressure sensor switch detects how much water is in the washing machine and reports this information to the Duet primary control. The pressure sensor is somewhat difficult to test directly, so the easiest way is to visual check that the pressure hose connecting the switch to the tub is not pinched or kinked. and do a Duet Washer Quick Diagnostic Test (the C06 portion of the quick test should fill the washer to “wash level”.

Drain Pump

Whirlpool Duet Washer Drain Pump

The duet washer drain pump’s purpose is also fairly obvious… Get that nasty water out of the washer. it connects to the Duet central control at the DP2 connection and should be sent apex. 120VAC to drain. One of the most common problems causing your Duet washer not do drain is not the pump at all but something jamming the pump like a bobby pin or bra wire. If your Duet won’t drain you may also want to check for a sock, coins, or lint blocking a hose. Clean out your pockets!

Flow Meter

The Duet washer flow meter is a very reliable device that… measures water flow into the wash tub. If your Duet washer won’t fill with water check the easy stuff first, home valves, washer valves… The flow meter is last on the list of possible causes.

Temperature Sensor

The Duet washer temperature sensor detects water temperature and returns that information to the Duet man control, to cycle the water valves or turn the heater on to regulate water temperature. The Duet washer temperature sensor should measure approximately 35.9 thousand Ω at 32ºF and 6.6 thousand Ω at 104ºF at the SET2 connection of the primary control

Heater

The Duet washer heater rates the water temperature in the drum to correctly dissolve detergent and kill bacteria. It should measure about 10Ω – 20Ω at the Duet control connection HE2.

Dispenser

The Duet washer dispenser has a small motor that moves an internal diverter guiding the fill water into the proper cup… detergent, fabric softener, bleach. The Duet dispenser motor should measure apex. 1400Ω – 1600Ω between DI6-1 and DI6-2.

  3. You can manually unlock the washer by removing the top (remove screws on the back of the top panel and slide the top panel back to lift off. then with the washer unplugged reach down and pull a small ring on the upper part of the door lock to manually open the door lock.
  4. Check the Duet door lock (Duet Door Lock Check)

Duet Washer Won’t Fill

Start with the easy stuff…

Duet Washer Wont Fill fish

  1. Unplug the washer for 30 seconds to attempt to reset the Duet washer control.
  2. Check your home water valves
  3. If your fill hoses have a flood stop check valve turn the water off, disconnect the hoses and run a little water into a bucket. Then reconnect the hoses to your washer and do a Duet Washer Quick Diagnostic Test.
  4. Check the Duet water valves (Duet Washer Valve Check)

  1. Unplug the washer for 30 seconds to attempt to reset the Duet washer control.
  2. Attempt a Duet Washer Quick Diagnostic Test
  3. Check the Duet Motor and motor control unit (Duet Motor Check)

Duet Washer Leaking

The most common cause of a Duet washer leaking is a hole in the washers door boot/bellows. However, a leak can come from many of the washer’s parts. the best way is to narrow your problem down… is it leaking all the time, even when the washer is off? (valve or water supply) or only when the washer is running? (hose, drain pump, door boot/bellows) Visually inspect the washer for the source of the leak… be careful of moving parts that may remove your parts!

Duet Washer Vibration

  1. Make sure your Duet washer is on solid footing… can you rock the washer by pressing on one of the corners.(adjust the washer legs)
  2. Does the washer go out of balance EMPTY during a Duet Washer Quick Diagnostic Test? No => What if you have a heavy load of like items (all towels) on a short normal cycle? If it can balance an all towel load, your problem is probably load related. (Read the users manual) If it is off balance empty or the all towel load went off balance move to step #3.
  3. Press down on the inner drum and feel for a popping movement (The inner drum support may be broken… this is bad) Try rotating the drum a few degrees and try several times… the inner and outer drums should move together as a unit. Sometimes the three point support that suspends the inner drum inside the outer drum can crack. If there is any movement you may need a new inner wash drum.
  4. Unplug the washer and remove the back panel to check the tub shocks. They should all be attached.
  5. If all that checks out your probably safe to replace the washer’s shocks.

Duet Washer Not Cleaning Well

Duet Washing MAchine Cleaner

Your washer can get extremely nasty inside in places you can’t see. Try leaving the door open a crack when the washer is not in use and make sure to use the Clean washer cycle from time to time. Run a Duet Washer Quick Diagnostic Test and make sure that the washer is mechanically working correctly. If it is then you may want to try a different detergent.

Stinky Duet Washer

Duet Washer Stink

Whirlpool has made big improvements with the new Duet washers to reduce odors with an improved venting system. Hoverer, the clean washer cycle is there for a reason! Your washer can get extremely nasty inside in places you can’t see. Try leaving the door open a crack when the washer is not in use and make sure to use the Clean washer cycle from time to time.

Duet Washer Won’t Drain

The most common Duet washer problem

Duet Washer Wont Drain

  1. Unplug the washer for 30 seconds to attempt to reset the Duet washer control.
  2. Enter the Duet Washer Diagnostic Mode and check for error codes.
  3. If your Duet washer has an F9E1 or SUDS error code (long drain) you may want to skip passed all the fill steps to step C07 (to test the drain pump.) This will hopefully keep your beloved Duet washer from filling with more water that it can’t drain. You can’t skip C00 (Door Lock) and C03 (Dispensing System) and go straight to testing the drain pump.

Whirlpool Duet Washer Drain Pump

  1. The best way I have found to deal with the water when your washer’s drain pump isn’t working is to use a shop-vac and pull from the drain hose. If that works your pump is highly suspect. If it doesn’t work then you almost certainly have a clog in your Duet washer’s drain system and the pump may be okay.
  2. If you can hear that the pump is trying to drain, you know it’s getting power from the Duet control like it should. Remove the pump and check for blockages. If the drain pump is not even trying to run you will need to check power supply to the pump for 120VAC when it should be draining. at the Duet control’s DP2 connection and at the drain pump.

If you haven’t gotten the clue from all of the links the Duet washer diagnostics quick test… It’s the key to figuring out what might be the problem with your Duet washer. I hope you found this guide helpful! If you did please share a link to it somewhere! That is a huge help for me!
