Some GE washers have a control board mounted on top of the washer's motor. This GE washer motor control has a small LED light that will flash a code or error then pause and repeat the code. If you have a GE washer "flash code" enter the number of code flashes in your search.
eg. "5 flashes"
The GE CleanSpeak washer service mode can be used to view stored error codes as well as test various parts on the GE CleanSpeak washer for proper operation.
GE CleanSpeak Washer Service Mode:
to enter the GE CleanSpeak washer service mode press and hold the START button while rotating the washers cycle selection knob 180 degrees (8 clicks) then release the START button, your GE CleanSpeak washer should display "00" when first entering the service mode. As you rotate the washer knob clockwise the diagnostic test number should increase, counter clockwise should decrease the selected diagnostic test number.
To start a service test while in the GE CleanSpeak washer service mode press the START button while the desired test number is displayed on the washers control.
To stop a service test and choose a new service test turn the washer knob.
To exit the GE CleanSpeak washer service mode press the POWER button or unplug the washer. The washer will automatically exit the diagnostics service mode after 30 minutes.
GE CleanSpeak Washer Error Codes:
To retrieve GE CleanSpeak washer error codes select test number 24 and press the START button. Cycle through stored error codes with the START button.
Clear Error Codes GE CleanSpeak Washer:
To clear stored error codes on the GE CleanSpeak washer select test number 25 and press the START button. "Er" will display on the washer press and hold the START button for 3 seconds to clear stored fault codes.
GE CleanSpeak Washer Service Tests:
(When the washer's START pad is pressed)
- "00" LED and lid:All the washer's LEDs and display should light up. When the lid is opened the LEDs and display should blink, letting you know that the lid switch is working.
If your washer won't drain, I would humbly suggest skipping the valve tests ; )
- 03 Hot water valve: Hot water valve should open, washer displays "H"
- 05 Cold water valve: Cold water valve should open, washer displays "C1". This test can also be used to check the washer's pressure sensor. When the water reaches the bottom pressure level the "Extra Light" LED should come on. When the water reaches the upper level the "Extra Light" and "Light" LEDs should come on. IMPORTANT: After a water test reaches the upper level the washer will continue to fill to the over flow level in order to calibrate the control board. DON'T PANIC! However you may want to have your hand on the water faucet all the same ; ). Once the overflow level is reached, your super fancy GE CleanSpeak washer should turn the water off and pump down to the upper water level. To get the rest of the water out use the washer's pump test, or a Shopvac.
- 07 Detergent Valve: If your GE washer has this feature the valve will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 2 seconds and display "c2". If your GE washer does not have this feature you will hear a beep.
- 09 Fabric Softener Valve: If your GE washer has this feature the valve will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 2 seconds and display "c3". If your GE washer does not have this feature you will hear a beep.
- 10 Bleach Valve: If your GE washer has this feature the valve will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 2 seconds and display "c4". If your GE washer does not have this feature you will hear a beep.
- 11 Bulk Detergent Valve: If your GE washer has this feature the valve will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 2 seconds and display "c5". If your GE washer does not have this feature you will hear a beep.
- 11 Bulk Fabric Softener Valve: If your GE washer has this feature the valve will turn on for 2 seconds and off for 2 seconds and display "c6". If your GE washer does not have this feature you will hear a beep.
- 13 Agitate: Your GE washer will display "A". The washer will not start the agitation test until the lid is closed and locked. If the lid switch or lock are your problem the agitate test will not work.
- 14 Spin: Your GE washer will display "S". The washer will not start the agitation test until the lid is closed and locked. If the lid switch or lock are your problem the spin test will not work.
- 15 Drain Pump: Your GE washer will display "P1" and the drain pump should run until the test is terminated.
- 16 Recirculation Pump: Your GE washer will display "P2" and the recalculation pump should run until the test is terminated.
- 19 Lid Lock: Your GE washer will display "LC" and the washers lid should lock, press the START button again and the washer's lid should unlock and display"UL".
GE Washer Diagnostic Service Mode
The GE washer diagnostics mode is entered by pressing and holding both the Whites/Hot (Whites/Fast) and the Start buttons for 3 seconds. When diagnostics Service Mode is started, the control displays "Fd" (Field Service Diagnostics).
Cycle Through GE Washer Diagnostic Service Tests:
To move to the next function in the Service Mode, press the Colors/Warm (Colors/Fast) button. To move back to the previous test, press the Whites/Hot (Whites/Fast) button.
How To Get GE Washer Error Codes:
To find any stored GE washer error codes cycle to the 3rd test in the diagnostics service mode. If there are no GE washer errors in the control's memory the display will be blank.
Clear GE Washer Error Codes:
To clear all the error codes from the washer's memory press the start button while in the error mode of the diagnostics service mode. Make sure you wrote down any error codes before you clear the washer's memory.
Diagnostic Service Tests:
- Fd: LED check
- ** = model code
- E# = Error code
- H = Opens Hot Water Valve
- C = Opens Cold Water Valve
- AL = Dry Agitate 105 Strokes per Minute (use caution!)
- AH = Dry Agitate 155 Strokes per Minute (use caution!)
- P = Turns On Drain Pump
- SP = High Speed Spin 630 RPM (use caution!)
Exit Diagnostic Service Mode:
You can exit the GE washer diagnostic service mode any one of the following ways.
- Press the Stop button.
- Unplug the washer.
- Wait 30 minutes.
GE Profile PTWN Washer Service Mode:
to enter the service diagnostics mode, start with the washer plugged in but the power off. Press and hold the SPIN and TEMP buttons then press POWER button. At this point "t1" for the first diagnostic test should display.
As you rotate the washer knob clockwise the diagnostic test number should increase, counter clockwise should decrease the selected diagnostic test number.
To start a service test while in the GE Profile washer service mode press the START button while the desired test number is displayed on the washers control.
To stop a service test and choose a new service test turn the washer knob.
To exit the GE Profile washer service mode press the POWER button or unplug the washer. The washer will automatically exit the diagnostics service mode after 15 minutes.
GE Profile PTWN Washer Error Codes:
to retrieve GE CleanSpeak washer error codes select test "t2" and press the START button once. (Holding the button will erase the error from the washer's memory so don't do that unless you recorded the error code first.
To cycle through stored error codes turn the washer's cycle knob. The GE Profile PTWN washer will store the 5 most recent faults.
Clear Error Codes GE Profile PTWN Washer:
Hold the START button while an error code is displayed to clear the error code from the washer's memory.
GE Profile PTWN Washer Service Tests: (Press START to begin each test.)

- t3: GE Profile PTWN washer Button and LED Test: Each time a button is pressed the washer should beep and the button LED should light up.
- t4: GE Profile PTWN washer Water Valve and Pressure Test: Each time START is pressed a different water valve should open and the corresponding letter is displayed on the washer.
- A = Cold Valve
- b = Hot Valve
- C = Jet Spray Valve
- d = Bleach Valve
- E = Fabric Softener Valve
- t5: GE Profile PTWN washer Heater and Thermostat Test: The washer tub should fill with water. When the water level has reached a particular level the heater should turn on for 5 minutes and the washer will display the water temperature. After 5 minutes the washer should drain.
- t6: GE Profile PTWN washer Drain Pump Test: The washer's drain pump should run for 1 minute and turn off each time you press the START button and display the water level frequency.
- t7: GE Profile PTWN washer CCW Agitation Test: The washer should spin counter clockwise at 230 RPM for 3 minutes and display the speed.
- t8: GE Profile PTWN washer CW Agitation Test: The washer should spin clockwise slowly then stop then spin for 3 minutes, 720 -902 should be displayed. This is not the RPM it is the load sensor reading with an empty tub.
- t9: GE Profile PTWN washer Agitation Test: The washer should agitate the wash plate clockwise then counter clockwise for 1 minute.
- T910: GE Profile PTWN washer Spin Test: The washer should run the drain pump until the water level is below 26.0 KHz then the washer should slowly ramp up to max spin speed for 3 minutes and display the RPM. 999 is the top spin RPM displayed. After 3 minutes the washer should slow to 0 RPM.
GE Front Load Washer Service Diagnostics Mode:
to enter the service diagnostics mode on a GE front load washer of this style, the washer must be empty of water. If your washer won't drain you will need to drain the washer manual before you can use the washer's diagnostics and read stored error codes.
- Press the Power button to stop and clear any wash cycles.
- Unplug the washer for 30 seconds
- After plugging the washer back in and within 30 seconds
- Press the signal button
- Press the delay start button
- Press the signal button
- Press the delay start button
- At this point the washer's door should lock and "t01" should display on the washer control
Important!!Your washer will stay in the diagnostics mode for 2 hours if you don't exit the washer diagnostics mode manually.
If you unplug the washer without manually exiting the washer diagnostics mode the washer will remain locked.
To Exit The Washer Diagnostic Mode:
- Press the signal button
- Press the delay start button
- Press the signal button
- Press the delay start button
As you rotate the washer knob clockwise the diagnostic test number should increase, counter clockwise should decrease the selected diagnostic test number.
To start a service test while in the GE front load washer service mode press the START/PAUSE button while the desired test number is displayed on the washers control.
To stop a service test START/PAUSE button again
To return to the diagnostic test menu to select a new test press the POWER button.
GE Front Load Washer Washer Error Codes:
to retrieve GE front load washer error codes select test "t2" and press the START button once. (Holding the button will erase the error from the washer's memory so don't do that unless you recorded the error code first.
To cycle through stored error codes turn the washer's cycle knob.
GE Front Load Washer Clear Error Codes :
Hold the START button while an error code is displayed to clear the error code from the washer's memory.
GE Profile PTWN Washer Service Tests: (Press START to begin each test.)

- E00 means no error have been logged
- Pressing and holding the START/PAUSE button will clear all washer error codes!
